Poetry Talk: Kwame Dawes – the edge of lake Utopia
Lection & Talk
Kwame Dawes (writer and editor, Ghana and Jamaica) in conversation with Susanne Stemmler (cultural manager, Berlin) and Dr. Volker Riehl (Misereor e. V.)
Kwame Dawes writes poems full of musicality, rhythm and strength; his performance is a moving experience which thrills you and stays with you. He will be reading poems and talking about his motivation, utopias and dreams. As an editor, he will be talking about the position of poetry from Africa in the international book market. Since 2014, this renowned poet has been publishing a poetry series together with Nigerian writer Chris Abani, bringing together prominent voices from the African continent to excite an international readership. In the African Poetry Book Series the book Seven New Generation African Poets appeared in 2014. This work includes volumes by Warsan Shire (Somalia) and TJ Dema (Botswana) and others. Kwame Dawes will be introducing poems from this volume and reading his own poems.
German translations of the texts will be available. Interpreting will be available for the event.
